Qimera 2.8.3 Release

April 2, 2026

We are pleased to present Qimera 2.8.3.

Workflow issue with KMALL files between Qimera 2.7.x and 2.8.x.

Due to a breaking change introduced in Qimera 2.8.1, KMALL vessel configurations generated in 2.7.6 or earlier versions are incompatible with vessel configurations generated in 2.8.1 or later. Because of this, projects including a KMALL vessel configuration generated in 2.7.6 or earlier will not be allowed to be opened or upgraded from 2.8.3 onward.

  • If you are working with KMALL files in a project created in Qimera 2.7.6 or earlier, we recommend finishing that project in Qimera 2.7.6 or starting a fresh project in Qimera 2.8.3.

  • If you are working with KMALL files in a project created in Qimera 2.8.1 or later you are unaffected and can continue working as normal.

How to continue my Qimera 2.7 project with KMALL files in 2.8.3

There are 2 scenarios:

  1. I already upgraded my Qimera 2.7 project with KMALL to 2.8.1 or 2.8.2

  2. I want to continue my Qimera 2.7 project with KMALL in 2.8.3

In order to continue, you must create a new project in 2.8.3 and import the KMALL files again. You can then re-apply the cleaning from the Qimera 2.7 (or upgraded) project QPDs. In the new 2.8.3 project:

  • Select all raw sonar files you want to import edits to

  • Right click on the selected files and in the popup menu select “Apply Edits from…”

  • In the open file dialog, navigate to the original QPDs in the Qimera 2.7 (or upgraded) project (in the project these are in the “DtmData” and vessel subfolder), select and open the associated QPD

Bugs

  • Processing / Source Files

    • Fixed a crash when creating static grids from laser scanner data.

    • Fixed a crash that occurred after editing navigation, reverting to original, and saving/closing the Navigation Editor.

    • Fixed an issue where a grid could disappear from the project in Linux after opening the project. On subsequent project opens, it would show a generic error in the Layer Explorer.

    • Fixed a crash when defining a Local Engineering Coordinate System in Geo Config due to changes in the underlying grid handling.

    • Fixed an issue where QPD edits created in Qimera 2.7.6 would not be applied in Qimera 2.8.1 or 2.8.2 for KMALL files.

    • Fixed an issue when extracting speed over ground from KMALL files, which showed unrealistic fluctuations compared to Qinsy DB values and SIS displays.

    • Investigated and fixed issues leading to large differences in database (.db) load times between complex vessel setups.

  • Tools and Editors

    • Fixed an issue that caused a decrease in performance of Cable/Pipe Top Detection in 2.8.1. The speed to detect a cable/pipe has significantly improved.

    • Fixed a crash in the Patch Test tool that could occur when rapidly switching between multibeam heads.

    • Fixed a crash in the Cable/Pipe Top Detection tool when working with ROV multibeam data and filtering/re-centering the detection window.

    • Added short-cut keys Ctrl+Shift+E and Ctrl+Shift+Q to rotate the selection box +/- 90 degrees. This is meant to address a change of behaviour of the slice editor rotate 90 buttons, which were inadvertently changed to just rotate the view instead of the slice box. This change is currently being investigated.

    • Improved handling of intensity colormap ranges in the Slice Editor. The mainly white point displays that used to require adjustment are now using the full range.

    • Fixed an issue on the first opening of the Patch Test Tool, the lines shown in the Patch Test Plot did not correspond correctly to the selected slice point display. This could occur if there was a gap between the first 2 lines.

    • Fixed an issue where, after saving and applying patch test results for dual‑head multibeams, cumulative offsets for head 2 remained visible in the table when reopening the tool.

  • Importing / Exporting

    • Fixed a project crash when importing KMALL files in Qimera-command that were directly converted to QPD. Importing KMALL files in Qimera-command will now require the auto-process job to be run after importing.

    • Fixed a crash when exporting an ENC Manager “chart” to S‑57.

    • Fixed a crash when importing line objects from CSV files containing empty fields.

    • Fixed a crash when exporting GSF from a project that only contained QPDs (no raw sonar files) and encountering a broken file path.

    • Fixed an issue when exporting BAG from a CUBE dynamic grid, with date/time and coverage attributes, where “CUBE uncertainty” was chosen.

    • Fixed an issue when exporting GSF files contained all additional and rejected soundings, even when those export options were left unchecked. These soundings were accepted in the GSF.

  • Other

    • Added a recover-project job to Qimera-command to properly close projects from the command line. This fixes “project not properly closed” fatal errors when jobs are interrupted.

Expected Fix Version

License Manager - Activate Softlock

Licensing - Opening older versions of Qimera may deactivate your license

There is a known issue with licensing in older versions of Qimera. An error would appear in the dialog “Failed to Activate License” with the message “There are network adapters on the system that are disabled, please enable them and try again.” when trying to activate the softlock license. In order to fix this issue, we’ve updated the licensing in Qimera 2.8.0 and License Manager 1.10.2.

This update may cause accidental license deactivation if you activate your license in Qimera 2.8.0 and then open an earlier 2.7.x version. The fix is to manually copy the DLLs (found in the link below) into that older version’s installation folder as noted in steps 1 and 2:

2.6.X

2.8.x

Limitation

Filter toolbars to "Accept All Soundings" and "Revert Manual Edits" do not have the intended effect when used in a Cooperative Cleaning project to override cleaning that was done manually in the Master project prior to creating the Cooperative Cleaning project.

Suggested workflow is to use the manual re-accept tools in the Slice Editor and 3D Editor.
