Exporting Seismic - UKOOA/OGP Formats
On this page:
Background
- P1/90 for Post - plot (processed position) data exchange
- P2/94 for Raw positioning data
These formats were originally developed by UKOOA but ownership was transferred to the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (OGP) Geomatics Committee in 2006. Changes in acquisition and processing technologies mean the formats have outlived their design life and can no longer support modern acquisition techniques without adaptation. An increasing number of non-standard variations and “add-ons” are being used*. They have therefore ceased to be standards as each user of the formats has modified them differently, to suit their own purposes. In 2011, OGP, the custodian of these formats, brought them up to date to meet the needs of complex seismic acquisition techniques of today and the foreseeable future.
Info
The long proposed revisions P1/11 and P2/11 were released in 2012. However, up to now (2015), P1/11 has not seen widespread acceptance and P1/90 is still commonly used to exchange bin center positions.
Data Storage
Raw positioning data is stored in *.DB files from which P2/94 files are exported.
Currently *.RES results files are automatically created along with *.DB files during acquisition.
For now *.RES files are needed for P1/90 export and should be copied along with *.DB files if transferring data to another computer or hard drive.
By the end of 2015 we hope to have fully transitioned to our proprietary QGF format that will include all the results data currently stored in *.RES files.
Storing to DTM files (*.QPD) is highly recommended as data export from the Processing Manager offers considerable flexibility when P1/90 files are not sufficient for the clients' purposes.
*.RES files are stored in \ProjectFolder\Results. P1/90 files are stored in the \ProjectFolder\Export folder.
Info
'How-to Geophysical Survey' provides comprehensive descriptions for creating a template database, acquiring and processing the seismic data.
Export
In the Raw Data Manager highlight the files for export and select 'Actions - Export', or click on the icon .
Select the correct format from the drop down list:
Warning
P1/90 is an export format based on 'shots' for seismic surveys. In QINSy it means P1/90 export is based on fixes acquired at the shot-point interval used for the survey.
Typically this is 6.25m, 12.5m and 25.0m. Please make sure to set up QINSy to take fixes correctly. See the Help in Controller - Setup for Towed Streamer Seismic.
