Generic - Navitracker Density Probe - 23

Description

Driver for decoding the density value as a generic observation, coming from a Navitracker Density Probe. Towed behind a vessel, this probe measures continuously the sediment density.

Besides the density value it outputs also the depth, the x-offset and the layback of the sensor.

In order to decode this depth, please see document Decoding Depth Observation.

In order to decode the x-offset and layback, please see document Decoding Position.

Interfacing Notes

The driver is a so-called passive driver, i.e. it does not send commands or data back to the sensor. Therefore only a one-way cable wiring is needed.

Database Setup

Define in Db Setup an (auxiliary) system of type 'Miscellaneous System' and select the driver 'Generic - Navitracker Density Probe'. Set the correct I/O parameters and select Next. Nothing to be changed on the 2nd wizard page, so select next. It is important to change the following settings on the Observation Parameters page:

  • Variable C-O: 1000.0

  • Scale factor:  0.001.

Due to these settings, the raw density value will be converted to the actual density (see formula described above).

Don't forget to hit the Apply Properties to Observation button, before finishing.

Online

Both the raw and the actual density value may be monitored on-line using an Observation Physics or a Timeplot Display.

The mode status (1 or 2) can monitored as quality indicator of the Density observation.
