Qinsy 9.6.0 - Important Notes
Windows Admin Rights
From this version onward, Qinsy no longer requires Windows Administration Rights.
For more information read the details on the page about Qinsy 9.6.0 Improvements
3rd Party Software using windows clock
Qinsy will no longer be able to adjust the Windows computer time when running without Windows Administration Rights.
This might affect you when running 3rd party software like Edgetech Discover or other software that relies on the computer clock being synchronized by Qinsy.
EPSG version 10
With the release of Qinsy 9.6.0 (including Squire), Qimera 2.6.0 and Fledermaus 8.6.0 we have upgraded to EPSG version 10.
These Geodetic Resources will be installed with Qinsy 9.6.0, Qimera 2.6.0 or Fledermaus 8.6.0. and will be installed in a new location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\QPS\GeodeticResources
The User Defined WKT configurations are located at:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\QPS\Shared\Geo\wkt\config\user
Geodetic Resources 4.0
This is a new installer with 3 new geoid models added.
To prevent you from downloading an additional large installer, the EPSG v10.082 database and all WKT files are already part of the Qinsy 9.6, Qimera 2.6 and Fledermaus 8.6 (X.6) installers (and newer versions).
Install Geodetic Resources 4.0 only in case you don’t have the geoid models installed or when you want to use the in this version added geoid models:
Poland
KTH-PL-GEOID2015 (EVRF2007-PL height)
Germany
GCG2011 (DHHN92 height)
GCG2016 (DHHN2016 height)

Database Upgrade
The last DB format upgrade was effective since Qinsy 9.4.0 - Important Notes
In Qinsy 9.6.0 and upward, the version of the Qinsy database has been upgraded again and is therefore not compatible with previous versions <9.6.
In this release, new records have been added which are not compatible with previous versions, which means that Qinsy 9.6.0 database files will not be supported in earlier versions
The *.db version upgrade changes were made for:
Multibeam Record has been upgraded (for future functionalities)
A new system type for Forward Looking Sonars
If you open a project in Qinsy 9.6, it will prompt you to upgrade the files. Before the upgrade, a backup of the template database is created in the Backup folder.
Using Templates, that are upgraded to the Qinsy 9.6 version, in previous Qinsy versions may lead to file corruptions.
The backed up databases will have .db_backup as file extension. To use it again with Qinsy 9.5.x - 9.4.x, copy the template database back into the database root folder and remove the _backup from the file extension.
Notes for related products:
New Grid format
With the release of Qinsy 9.6.0, Qimera 2.6.0 and Fledermaus 8.6.0 we are introducing or new Grid 5 format and will say goodbye to:
Sounding Grid (.grd) (Grid 3)
Dynamic Surface (.surface) (Grid 5)
Dynamic Surfaces have an active link to the source files and will update the Grid surface when the source files are updated .
Sounding Grids do not have an active link to their source files and are more or less static as they will not update when the source files are updated.
With the introduction of the new Grid 5 format is destined for more then just “Sounding” data. As both files contain gridded data, which is not always representing a surface, we changed the file names and the extension to:
Static Grid (.statgrid) (Grid 5)
Dynamic Grid (.dyngrid) (Grid 5)
When opening your project in Qinsy 9.6.0 your Sounding Grids (.grid) (Grid 3) will be upgraded to Static Grids (.statgrid) (Grid 5) and the extension of your Dynamic Surfaces will be renamed from *.surface to *.dyngrid.
Sounding Grids (Grid 3) can still be imported/exported in the Survey Manager to support previous Qinsy versions.
The New Grid 5 format:
Has 8 Levels Of Details (LOD)
Previous Grid 3 has 6 LOD
When using a cell size of 1m you can cover an area of:
8388 x 8388 km.
The file has the limitations of a 64 bit file:
Max 256 TB
Files size larger then Grid 3 due to:
More Levels of Detail
Improved unit resolutions
Note: Static Grids can not be used with the retired Sounding Grid Utility (SGU)
Forward Looking Sonar
With Qinsy 9.6.0 we make a start with supporting Forward Looking Sonars (FLS).
A new record type has been added to the Database to support it as an dedicated system type.
The new record will store the received and unprocessed data.
In this version you will be able to:
Interface the following FLS
Show the Raw data in a FLS Display to verify the data received
In Qinsy 9.7.0 (Q4-2023) more functionality will be made available.
