Dongle Issues

From Qinsy version 8.18.0 on the License Manager replaced the HASP Loader.
When you are a dongle user, not much will change: the License Manager provides the same overview of the products available on your dongle as did/does the HASP Loader.

For Egosecure users: It is known that this program can block the dongle that is provided by QPS. Please switch this program off to test the functionality.

When upgrading from an old version of Qinsy or Qastor on Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may run into problems with the dongle.

  1. Please check the Support & Maintenance (S&M) expiry date on your dongle with the License Manager either in the Qinsy Console - Help option:

  2. Or, when using Qastor:

The License Manager can normally be found in the Common Files folder of your C-drive, where it can be accessed by other programs as well.
Usually the License Manager is installed here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\QPS\License-Manager

  3. In Qinsy press 'View License Status' to start the License Manager, in Qastor start the executable license-manager.exe:

If you are using a release version that was released after the S&M expiration date you will not be able to use it.

  4. Please check the Qinsy Version installed on your PC in the Qinsy Console, or, in Qastor, use the Help - About option:

If you start Qinsy/Qastor and get the message “No Dongle Found”, please try the following steps to resolve this problem:
    1. Run Windows Update to update your system
    2. Remove the dongle from the computer
    3. Use the File Explorer and browse the Qinsy/Qastor Program Files folder

Starting from Qinsy 8.17.0 Qinsy will be installed inside a "QINSy" folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\QPS\QINSy

      Using Windows 10:

The Command Window has been replaced by a PowerShell window. Follow the same procedure as described below. For each command prepend .\

So haspdinst -info will change to .\haspdinst -info

To open the PowerShell window, select the Qinsy folder, and go to File> Open WIndows PowerShell>Open Windows PowerShell

      • Press SHIFT + Right Mouse Button
      • Select "Open Command Window here". A command prompt should appear.
      • Type: haspdinst -info to check which driver version have been installed.

      • Type: haspdinst -r -kp to remove the installed driver.
        • If previous command does not work, use: haspdinst –fremove or haspdinst –fremove -purge

      • When the "Operation is successfully completed" the driver has been removed.
This can be verified by typing: haspdinst -info and it will show version 0.0 for each component.

        • If the information window does not show 0.0 for each component, then please make sure that there are no (other) dongles connected to the computer.
Repeat the above steps until the driver is completely removed from the computer before proceeding with the steps  below.

  1. Now re-install Qinsy/Qastor (or Reinstall the driver when the correct Qinsy/Qastor version was already installed)
    • Reinstalling the driver:
      • Type: haspdinst -i to install the driver
      • Type: haspdinst -info to check if the driver is installed correctly.

  2. Re-insert the dongle
When your PC is connected to the Internet Windows will upgrade the driver to the latest available driver.
When the driver is ready to use you can double check the version installed by typing haspdinst -info in the command line window.

    1. Sometimes it is required to restart the PC to get the above triggered by Windows.

  3. Check the dongle again with the License Manager in the Qinsy Console, or start the license-manager.exe again for Qastor.
Upgrade the dongle when your Support and Maintenance has expired before the release version.

    Return to: Qinsy - Installation
    or
    Return to: Qastor General
