Remote Desktop Connection (Windows 7)

With Remote Desktop Connection, you can connect to a computer running Windows from another computer running Windows that's connected to the same network or to the Internet.
First it is necessary to allow remote connections on the computer you want to connect to (survey pc):

  • Open System by clicking the Start button , right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties;
  • Click Remote settings;
  • Click Select Users;
  • In the Remote Desktop Users dialog box, click add;
  • Do the following in the Select users or Groups dialog:
    • To specify the search location, click Locations, and then select the location you want to search;
    • Enter the object names to select, type the name of the user that you want to add, and then click OK; 
    • The name will be displayed in the list of users in the Remote Desktop Users dialog box. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Before it is possible to connect to a different computer, it is necessary that the 'name' of the computer is known:

  • Open System by clicking the Start button, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties;
  • Under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings, the computer name can be found;

It is possible to start the session with the following steps: 

  • Search for 'Remote Desktop Connection' in the search box in the start menu of Windows;
  • In the Computer box, type the name of the computer that you want to connect to, and then click Connect. (You can also type the IP address instead of the computer name.) 

Remote Desktop Connection (Windows 8, 8.1 and 10)

  • It is necessary to set up the remote PC to allow remote connections. On the remote PC, open 'Settings' and select 'System' and then 'about'. Note the PC name. Then, under 'Related settings' select 'System info';

  • In the left pane of the System window, select 'Advanced system settings';

  • On the Remote tab of the System Properties dialog box, under Remote Desktop, select Allow remote connections to this computer, and then select OK;

  • Next, in Settings , select 'System' and then 'Power & sleep' and check to make sure Sleep is set to 'Never'.

  • At the local Windows 10 PC: In the search box on the task bar, type Remote Desktop Connection, and then select Remote Desktop Connection.

  • In Remote Desktop Connection, type the full name of the remote PC, and select Connect.
