Color Maps Location

The default Color Map location has changed to:

CODE
C:\Users\Public\Documents\QPS\Shared\ColorMaps\Default\

:

From Qinsy 9.5.0 onward this default location will be used.  Each Qinsy installation after this release will overwrite the default color maps in this location, so make sure when you modify color maps to store them under a different folder.

Setup

Warning when using alternative Driver settings files

Sometimes we send drivers to customers for testing purposed with a related Drivers.IO.JSON files which is needs to be copied to a public documents folder.
After testing it appears that this file is sometimes not removed and with newer Qinsy versions they would overwrite the settings from the installed version (as per design), but users we not made aware about it.
In some cases this caused unexpected behavior of a driver and it was hard to reproduce as others did not have that Driverrs.IO.JSON file installed on their machines.
We now added a clear indication when drivers settings are not from the installed Drivers.IO.JSON files, but from the alternative file in the public documents folder:

Drivers

MBES - Kongsberg KMALL - RAW data MRZ logging

For Multibeam systems, Qinsy historically expects separate messages/telegrams: Bathymetry and Beam intensity Time Series (Seabed Imagery / Snippets). With the introduction of the KMALL format Kongsberg combined Bathymetry and Seabed Imagery (aka Beam Intensity Time Series / Snippets) into one message. This resulted for Qinsy that we would store the RAW MRZ message twice and increased the size of the recorded Qinsy DB files.
Qinsy will now only store one MRZ package for both Bathymetry and Seabed Imagery.

Pipe and Cable Trackers (TSS)

We improved the decoding of the TSS350 Signal Strength (by a miscellaneous system) .

The TSS 340 Pipe tracker is redundant and will be replaced by TSS 340/440/350 Pipe/Cable Tracker drivers:

Online

Go online with missing serial ports

In certain situations equipment needs to be powered off on deck for safety reasons. One scenario is for example ROV's. When they are on deck, usually they are powered off.
When working with MOXA N-ports, this can lead to loss of those ports on the side of the survey PC.
Since Qinsy 9.4.0 it was possible to go Online with missing serial ports by changing a registry key. As from 9.5.0 this is no longer needed and this option is always active.

When going Online users will always be prompted when serial ports are missing:

USV improvements

  • Survey Manager

  • The two Navigation Display items (see under Displays for details)

  • Autopilot Driver improvements (Preview of simulation during development)

    • Auto start/stop recording on active area selected in the Session Setup - Control (was a separate area in the autopilot driver)
The turning track based on the MBES swath coverage is now supported by two modes:

      • 'Only when Auto Start/Stop Recording' - Using an Recording Area in the Navigation Display / Session setup

      • 'Area Based' - Note that 'ASV Mode' has been renamed into 'Area Based'

Advantage of the first mode is that you don't have to select a survey area anymore in the driver itself.

    • Survey Lines - set maximum number of segment (smart segment reduction)

    • Autopilot Line is now Active Survey Line
The calculated turn track (based on the swath coverage) will become automatically the new Controller's mainline (without the turn).
So when you have to abort the line and redo it or you want to go somewhere in your area to fill up a gap you can now quickly select a mainline from the history of all tracks.
Note that when using the Remove button and then the Calc button it will calculate a turning track from the vessel to that current mainline

    • Improved Smart next turn direction
The selection of the next turning selection (Fixed, Alternating) has been changed. It now supports

      • Relative direction (turn port / starboard) or

      • Absolute (using the compass rose)

E.g. when you start your survey in the southern part of your survey area you just select 'North'.
The next turn will always point to the north regardless the current location / heading of the vessel.

    • Advanced Settings have been reorganized.

    • Improved turning circle connections to the start location (Before /After)

    • The orange autopilot track has been made more visible in the Navigation Display..

    • Abort Line/Mission Option

    • Resume mission from abort location

    • More automatic logging in the Survey Log

Session Setup - Line Planning - Warning with large QGF files

With the Offshore Wind Farms we noticed that some of you tend to add all the routes off all the cables into one Line Planning Files and load them into the session setup as active line files.
These routes are often containing 1m or smaller sections and are resulting in routes with many sections and consuming memory across the running applications Online.

To prevent performance issues we added a warning to inform you:

Please select only the routes you are going to be working on in the Session Setup and load the routes as a background file into the Navigation Display to have them visualized. This will lower the memory usage and and give less monitoring work to the Navigation Display when hovering with your mouse over (active) the routes.

Survey Log Improvements

When you go Online with Qinsy it automatically starts a logging system that allows the surveyor to add events and comment.
We renamed this Line Log to Survey Log as we included additional survey related information to the logging system:

    • SVP’s file names are now included into to log

    • User Defined Events can added

      • User can modify and define default events (by modifying the XML)

    • Included with each event:

      • Fix number

      •  (Steered Node) position (E/N, Lat/Long, KP/Offset)

      •  Tide Value/Active Tide Strategy

    • An event is added when the active tide strategy changes

    • Working in Local Time or in UTC

    • Define Date and Time formats

For the reporting we improved:

    • Option to merge multiple files

      • Manual select files to merge

      • All files found in a folder

      • All files found in sub folders

    • Filter events from the report

    • Improved Reporting layout for printing  and PDF creation

      • User defineable Logo (is added to the project with default name)

      • Project Info (from Template DB)

      • Pages / Date / etc.

Storage - Sounding Grid - Pre-defined layers and settings

When creating a new Sounding Grid you always had to select the layers you want to enable and what items (attributes) you wanted it to contain.
This can be quite some work for some setups:

We modified the user interface a little bit:

You can now remove layers you are not using on your current project and the selection you made will be stored for the next time you create a new grid:

When you change you setup our you suddenly need to use the other system in your setup, you can click on Use Defaults and we will scan your Template Database again for the available systems and show all of them, so you can create your new predefined setup.

Displays

Navigation - Draw Route improvements

In the Navigation Display you can add a Point/Line/Route and you could add it to the display or make it the active line to survey.
This could be inconvenient when you would be drawing a next line to sail to fill a gap in your Sounding grid. For this purposes we  added the option to add it to your line planning as the next line.
So now you have 3 options to choose from:

Survey Manager

Line Planning - Sort Lines

When you create Wing Lines (WL) or Cross Lines (XL) you can sort the sailing order Online in the Session Setup - Line Planning.
In the Survey Manager it is now possible to sort lines too and to export  the sorted lines. This can be useful for Single Beam mission planning files:

Survey Manager - Import - Geoid Models

We not only made possible again to import Geoid Models into the Survey Manager, but we also greatly improved the import speed.

Plan View - Range Tool - Request for same functionality as Range Tool Navigation Display

The Range Tool functionality has been updated and is now more inline with the Navigation Display and the former Sounding Grid Utility (SGU) from Qinsy 8

Volumes

We added the Maximum (Shallowest) and Minimum (Deepest) value of the active layer to the report for reference .
